Walkers Logs Brand Video

Walkers Logs approached us to help them create a brand video for their company. From their Cotswold yard, they are able to provide premium kiln dried logs throughout the UK. Our video was created to tell the story and help viewers understand the process of how the logs are obtained. It was important to Walkers, that the video highlighted their responsible tree harvesting and care for the wildlife and sustainability of the woodlands they work in compared to cheaper imports. The final shot of the film is set within a typical country cottage where two people can be seen to enjoy the warmth of a…

Dedication in Every Shot – Making a Beer Commercial for Hook Norton Brewery

One of favourite recent projects has been creating an online commercial for Hook Norton Brewery in Oxfordshire. Hook Norton Brewery is a fascinating organisation, steeped in history, with strong local ties. The Brewery itself has been there since 1849 and the business still remains a family run company after all this time. Our approach was to tell a short story that captured their passion for crafting real ales and blend this with cinematic shots which create the atmosphere you feel when visiting their rural location. Planning the Shoot We visited the site of the Brewery which allowed us to visualise shots in advance. It…

Why you should hire a professional for aerial drone filming

Drones have brought aerial filming within the reach of far more people than ever before. Instead of hiring an aeroplane or helicopter in order to film from the air, it is now possible to hire or buy an aerial drone for a fraction of the price. While aerial drones can be purchased for less than £1,000, there are a number of great reasons to hire a professional drone operator like Studio8 rather then attempting to shoot your own footage. Most importantly our Drone pilot has taken an extensive course to gain a license from the Civil Aviation Authority which is legally required in order to…

iPhoneography – what does it mean?

There’s an old saying in photography that the best camera is the one you have with you, which goes some way to explaining the massive trend in iPhoneography - using an iPhone to take photos. With the camera getting better with each passing generation, the iPhone is now capable of truly stunning photography. It still lacks the full technical capabilities of a DSLR, but it’s good enough and the fact that owners always have their phones to hand means that more and more moments that simply wouldn’t have been recorded for posterity are now finding their way on to Flickr, Pinterest and Instagram. However, it's…

Getting the best iPhone shots this Christmas

Mobile phone photography has come a long way since those first sub-1 megapixel cameras with a preview screen so small you were never sure if you'd taken a photo of a baby or a potato. Today the basic camera resolution for the standard smart phone model is around 8 megapixels and boasts a screen so big you can fit a photo of both a baby and a potato onto it. So as you peel off your new phone's plastic screen cover on Christmas morning, prepare to enter a world of filters, editing and instantly sharing pictures of your perfectly cooked turkey with the world. Taking…

Getting your images ‘Retina Ready.’

When the eyes of the world were on Cupertino on September 9th 2014 for the latest iPhone launch, one of the biggest ‘buzz’ announcements was all about the new and improved Retina HD screens that will be included with the iPhone 6 and the phablet-like iPhone 6 Plus - the former is a moderate resolution improvement over the iPhone 5S, and the latter is leaps and bounds ahead of anything that iPhone lovers would have seen before. A better resolution means a greater amount of pixels being visible on the screen, and this has the potential to create a headache for those who are responsible…

Three people in a photo

What’s in a Photo?

Today, nearly everyone has a digital camera, even if it’s on your phone! This is great because not a moment passes when you can’t take a picture. It raises a question though: “Why would I employ a professional photographer when I’ve got my own awesome camera?!” This reminds me of the age old saying: ‘Its not the tool, it’s how you use it’ Ansel Adams (one of, if not, the greatest landscape photographer ever) said: “The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it” At Studio8 we have dedicated and talented team of professional photographers and videographers. Here are a…
